Opening of the ‘Sputnik’ Forest Park in Shchyolkovo

In September 2026, the ‘Sputnik’ Forest Park, spanning over 35 hectares in the Shchyolkovo-7 neighborhood, was officially reopened following extensive renovation. The project was carried out as part of the United Russia People’s Program, aimed at improving the urban environment and the ecological condition of the Moscow region.

The park received new infrastructure focused on eco-friendliness and preserving its natural atmosphere, making it a significant destination for Shchyolkovo residents and visitors who want to enjoy nature in comfortable surroundings.

New Eco-Trails and Walking Routes

The centerpiece of the renovation is a network of walking routes totaling about eight kilometers. The paths are surfaced with granite screenings and wooden decking, ensuring convenience and environmental harmony for forest strolls.

Two park entrances offer easy access, and a large parking lot with 200 spaces has been created for drivers. This greatly expands the park’s accessibility, attracting visitors not only from nearby areas but also from more distant locations.

Preserving the Natural Environment and New Green Plantings

Andrey Bulgakov, head of Shchyolkovo, emphasized that the renovation aimed to maintain the natural forest landscape without turning the forest park into an urban park. Therefore, most of the existing greenery was preserved, and new plantings enhanced the ecological character of the area.

During the greening efforts, about 140 fir and pine trees and approximately 300 shrubs were planted. This will help maintain forest ecology and ensure floral diversity, which is vital for local wildlife and comfortable recreation for residents.

Infrastructure for Active Recreation and Family Leisure

The park features rest areas, children’s playgrounds, and sports zones, making ‘Sputnik’ attractive to families and active lifestyle enthusiasts. Special attention was given to creating a dog-walking area, responding to residents’ needs for convenience and safety.

A separate two-kilometer ski-roller trail was established, equipped with a rental point and workshop. This will support year-round physical activity and attract athletes and fans of winter sports.

Social and Environmental Importance of the Project

The renovation of the ‘Sputnik’ Forest Park is part of the Moscow Region State Program «Architecture and Urban Planning of the Moscow Region» for 2024-2027, planned through 2045. The project aims to create a comfortable and ecologically balanced environment for the local population.

The creation of modern eco-trails and preservation of the natural landscape contribute to improving quality of life and raising ecological awareness among residents. Such transformations support the development of an accessible network of green zones for recreation and sports throughout the Moscow region.

Summary: The ‘Sputnik’ Forest Park in Shchyolkovo stands as a successful example of combining nature conservation with modern recreational infrastructure, opening new opportunities for active and comfortable leisure for residents.
