Resumption of Operations at Pskov Airport
Starting September 1, 2026, Pskov Airport has completely lifted the temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures that were previously introduced to carry out security system upgrades. This was officially announced by the Rosaviatsiya press service, confirming that the airport now operates normally.
The restrictions were in effect since late July 2026 and affected more than 15 flights per week, significantly reducing the region’s air connection with other parts of Russia. Lifting these restrictions will restore previous transportation volumes and strengthen the accessibility of the Pskov region.
Reasons for Restrictions and Their Resolution
Temporary restrictions were imposed by Rosaviatsiya on July 28, 2026, due to the need for modernization and updating of Pskov Airport’s security systems. Specifically, radar control and navigation support systems were upgraded to comply with the federal aviation standards of 2024.
The investment in these updates amounted to about 120 million rubles, with the work carried out by the company “Aerobezopasnost-SPb.” After technical tests and inspections completed on August 28, 2026, Rosaviatsiya recognized the airport as meeting safety requirements.
Impact on the Economy and Regional Development
Pskov Airport is a key transport hub in Russia’s northwest, serving over 35,000 passengers monthly before the restrictions. The flight suspension harmed the local economy, including the tourism sector, which generates around 450 million rubles annually for the region.

The administration of Pskov Airport announced plans for further infrastructure development through 2030, including construction of a new terminal and modernization of the 2,500-meter runway. The total project budget is estimated at 1.2 billion rubles.
