Moscow Region Tops Housing Completion Rankings

The Moscow Region has become the leader among Russian regions in the volume of new housing put into operation from January to August 2026. According to preliminary data from Rosstat, published by RIA «Real Estate,» over 6 million square meters of housing were commissioned in the Moscow Region during these eight months. This figure significantly exceeds the performance of other federal subjects and reflects the active development of the region’s construction sector.

Second place in the ranking is held by Moscow, with 3.7 million square meters of housing, an 8.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Following in third place and beyond are Tatarstan, Krasnodar Krai, and Leningrad Region, each with volumes around 2.7–2.8 million square meters.

Housing Completion Structure in Moscow Region

According to Mosstat data, from January to July 2026, 5.37 million square meters of housing were commissioned in the Moscow Region. A significant portion of this volume comes from individual construction, indicating high activity among private builders and growing demand for private houses and cottages in the region.

In July 2026, about 945 thousand square meters of housing were put into operation in the Moscow Region. This figure points to a stable construction pace, which is crucial for providing housing to the growing population and reducing the shortage of affordable homes near Moscow.

Total Housing Completions Across Russia

Across the Russian Federation, 58 million square meters of housing were commissioned from January to August 2026. In August alone, approximately 7.5 million square meters were delivered nationwide, demonstrating the steady development of the construction sector and the housing market’s investment appeal.

The Moscow Region accounts for a significant share of the total housing completions, providing more than 10% of all housing constructed in Russia during this period. This underscores the region’s vital role in the national housing policy and economy.

The Significance of Moscow Region’s Leadership for the Real Estate Market

The Moscow Region’s leading position in housing completions reflects strong investment activity and support for the construction industry from regional authorities. Infrastructure development, availability of land plots, and favorable conditions for developers contribute to the sector’s sustainable growth.

For homebuyers, this means an increase in supply both in new developments and individual construction. The growth in housing volume helps ease price pressures on the market and expands options for various population groups.

Prospects for Housing Development in the Moscow Region

Given the current pace of housing commissioning and the regional authorities’ plans, the Moscow Region maintains potential for further growth. A key focus remains on developing transport and social infrastructure, which will enhance the region’s attractiveness for residents.

Experts note that maintaining the Moscow Region’s leadership will depend on continued government support, the effectiveness of urban development projects, and adaptation to changing economic conditions.

Conclusion: The Moscow Region remains Russia’s leading housing market, setting the pace for the industry and influencing the real estate sector.
