Major Scientific Forum in Rostov-on-Don
From September 29 to October 1, the Don State Technical University (DSTU) will host the satellite event of the VI Congress of Young Scientists. The event will bring together about 150 participants — scientists, researchers, and university representatives from various regions of Russia, as well as officials and business leaders.
This forum is important because young scientists will have the opportunity to present their developments and projects aimed at the sustainable development of the Azov region and Rostov Oblast. The focus is on practical challenges that are highly relevant for the region.
Themes and Key Objectives of the Congress
Participants will concentrate on three main areas: creating an early warning system for fish kill events and deterioration of the Azov Sea water quality; preserving specially protected natural territories of the Azov region, including defining boundaries and fire monitoring; and developing tourist and recreational infrastructure.
Special attention will be given to water resource management and adapting agriculture in the southern macro-region of the Azov area to climate change and the consequences of the Kakhovka Reservoir destruction. These tasks directly impact the ecology, economy, and social development of the oblast.
The Role of Regional Universities and Government Support
Yuri Slyusar, Governor of Rostov Oblast, emphasized the importance of supporting young scientists as an investment in the region’s future. In particular, he highlighted the leading universities of the region — DSTU and Southern Federal University (SFU), where modern laboratories and a world-class campus, «DonTech,» have been established.
At SFU, a unique small-scale chemistry center operates where young researchers and graduate students carry out industry-commissioned projects. This fosters an innovative environment and strengthens the scientific potential of the Azov region.
Excursions and Practical Work of Participants
As part of the forum, visits to scientific and industrial sites of the region are planned. Participants will tour the laboratories of DSTU and SFU, as well as the facilities of Rostselmash, one of Russia’s largest agricultural machinery manufacturers.
After familiarizing themselves with the sites, project teams will continue developing proposals and conduct preliminary presentations. This will help formulate high-quality solutions that can be implemented at both regional and federal levels.
Connection with the VI Congress of Young Scientists in Saint Petersburg
The main VI Congress of Young Scientists will be held from December 2 to 4 in Saint Petersburg and will gather scientific leaders from all regions of Russia and over 100 countries. Organizers include the Roscongress Foundation, the Government of the Russian Federation, and the Coordinating Council under the President of the Russian Federation for Science and Education.
The Rostov satellite congress will serve as an important platform for preparing projects and ideas that will be presented in Saint Petersburg. The final decisions may form the basis for interdepartmental federal initiatives aimed at advancing science and technology in Russia.
